TIME MANAGEMENT EXPERT REVEALS
S.M.A.R.T. TIPS FOR SEIZING THE LONGEST DAY OF THE
YEAR

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.,
June 17, 1999 -- What
would most people do with an extra hour of daylight? A survey sponsored by Kelloggs
Smart Start cereal posed this question in celebration of the longest day of the
year, June 21st, the day with an extra hour of sunlight. Not surprisingly, one in three
people polled said they would like to use an extra hour outdoors for fun in the sun, at
the beach or in the park.
To help people find the time to "Seize The Day" and make the most out of
daylight savings time, time management expert, Jeffrey Mayer, author of Time Management
for Dummies, and Kelloggs Smart Start cereal, offer these S.M.A.R.T.
tips:
Schedule
an appointment with yourself. Take the time to concentrate on the tasks at hand without
interruptions.
Make
a
list. Before calling it quits today, make a list of the things you want to do tomorrow.
Add fun
activities. Thirty-two percent of Americans want to spend more time participating in
outdoor activities, so plan some fun outings and do not let the summer slip away.
Review and
renew. In the morning, review your to-do list and renew your commitment to accomplishing
each task.
Time it
right. Every person has a certain time of day at which they are the most productive. The
morning is usually when most people are at their best.
"People are losing time worrying about the small things. By making a list and
prioritizing, you will find more time to do the things you want to do," says Mr.
Mayer.
To help you get started,
Kelloggs Smart Start cereal has created the
"Smart Start" daily reminder pad. This pad can be placed in the
kitchen, next to the phone or on a desk, to provide a convenient way to make a list and
prioritize. To receive a free copy, call 1-877-592-3079.
Here is a snapshot of other ways people will spend an extra hour, according to the
Smart
Start survey:
-
Women (28%) are more inclined than men (16%) to relax at home and watch television, read
or listen to music.
-
One out of four (24%) respondents between 18-34 years old prefer to join family and
friends.
-
Twenty percent of Americans living in the western United States, more than any other
region, would use the time to catch up on chores.
"Kelloggs Smart Start cereal is a nutritious way to start the day while
making your lists and setting priorities," says Meghan Parkhurst, senior manager
communications, Kellogg USA. "It provides complex carbohydrates and 100% of 10
vitamins and minerals to give consumers the energy needed to make the most of their

between May 26 and May 30, 1999, as a telephone survey among a national sample of 1,013
adults, 18 years of age or older. For a survey of this size, the sampling error is +/-
3.1% at the 95% confidence level.
